Serving AH Residents

All government is there to serve the people, not the other way round. We need to be welcoming to residents and businesses alike, and we need to work with our residents and small businesses to help them achieve their goals.

I believe in communication. That means genuinely listening to each other, and for elected officials that means listening to residents’ and local businesses’ concerns and to be truly responsive to their needs. Communication also means genuine debate where all positions are heard and all sides of an issue are considered. That means accepting disagreement. I’m o.k. being the occasional squeaky wheel if that means an important aspects of an issue isn’t overlooked and the ultimate approach is better as a result of it.

While I applaud the current mayor and board for always having encouraged residents to voice any concerns as part of board meetings, I also recognize that the formality of a broadcast meeting and a format that allows for a maximum speaking time of  3 minutes isn’t ideal for an informal exchange of ideas. As trustee, I will hold regular “coffee with the trustee” sessions where I will listen to any resident for as long as it takes.
